About Wooden Roots

Wooden Roots is a small company located in the Conejo Valley, Southern California, close to Santa Barbara yet within easy reach of Los Angeles. The founder, Marcus Brown, started the company with a firm goal “To supply quality drums, offer support and help to all customers.” The company has gone from strength to strength and Marcus finds that his drums are very popular at open drum circles, exhibition booths and retreats. In addition he gets a lot of business through word of mouth and of course via the website.

Marcus was born in London, England and his parents hail from Jamaica. Marcus has been playing West African drums for 8 years and has a particular passion for the djembe and dunun drums, West African history and culture. He continues to extend his knowledge and skills by attending drum classes and West African drum & dance conferences, some as far away as Japan. He also attends workshops, recording sessions with well-known musicians, attends live performances and performs for traditional West African dance classes weekly. You can also find him at most of the local drum circles in Los Angeles. When you buy a drum from Wooden Roots you are guided through the whole process, from how to play and importantly how to tune and care for your drum. You will also receive information about local drum classes, circles and events.

“People can get drums from many different places, including local music centers, beaches and the internet, however they are very often sub-standard or not truly authentic" says Marcus. "I want to make sure that people are not tainted by such experiences and start with the right drum and the right guidance", he continued "Drumming is presented in a whole new light as I am offering fine quality drums and beginner instruction to get people on their way into the wonderful world of drumming!”

The ethos of Wooden Roots is simple. To provide the best quality authentic West African Drums and percussion instruments at the best value. Wooden Roots has developed a strong and supportive relationship with its suppliers, to enable the drum buyer a choice of high quality drums.

"Wooden Roots creates piece of mind in selecting your authentic quality instrument".
