Drum Workshops

We hold regular djembe and other West African percussion workshops such as N’Goni and Dunun at Wooden Roots and often with guest or resident artists from West Africa. Our workshops range from 90 minutes to 2.5 hours and we always set the skill level as a guide for you. Generally mixed level is open to everyone, however, if you are a complete beginner we suggest that you come to our FREE INTRO, which we hold once a month. The cool thing about doing the free intro is that you get to meet the Wooden Roots team too! All our workshops are fun, exhilirating and uplifting and require no musical experience at all.

Rhythm @ Roots: PARKINSONS

MONTHLY SATURDAY's 1:00pm - 3:00pm Rhythm @ Roots PARKINSON’S, a workshop designed for anyone living with Parkinson's. This fun and uplifting drumming workshop is FREE to carers and £10 for Parkinson's attendees.

Student Led Practice Sessions

On Tuesdays 7:00pm - 8.30pm (check drop down menu for dates) Enjoy these student led practice sessions and hone your drum skills. Suggested Donation is £5 (payable in cash on the night) this will go directly into supporting our bursary programme at the Wooden Roots, making drumming & dance more accessible.

Djembe & Dunun core fundamentals w/Marcus

June 28th 11:30am - 1:00pm This workshop is fun but will also prepare you for the summer festivals and camps where you can dust off your djembe and remember how it all fits together. Don't just sit at the back of a workshop and think you know what's happening - KNOW what's happening and use it to your advantage!

Rhythm @ Roots N’Goni workshop

June 28th 11:30am - 1:00pm Let the rhythmic and soothing melodies take you on a musical journey like no other. No experience required.

June 28th 2:00pm - 4:30pm Intermediate Level Djembe drumming with Aboubacar Konate. Come and join us for this fun and in depth workshop.

Free Introduction to Traditional West African Drumming

Monthly on Saturdays 9:30am - 10:15am (check drop down box for dates) Learn the rhythms and techniques of traditional West African drumming!

Rhythm @ Roots Djembe & Dunun workshop

Monthly on Saturday 10:45am - 12:15pm (see drop down box for dates) Get ready to feel the beat of the drums at Rhythm @ Roots - Djembe & Dunun, where we'll be grooving to traditional West African rhythms.

Rhythm @ Roots MAY DANCE

Monthly Saturdays 1pm-2pm (check drop down box for dates) Get ready to DANCE at Rhythm @ Roots - Rosy May will soon have you grooving and moving to the beats.

Rhythm @ Roots Mini Dunun workshop “ballet style”

Monthly on SATURDAY's 2:30pm - 4:00pm (check drop down box for dates) The Dunun drums are an integral part of traditional West African rhythms. In this workshop we learn "Ballet" Style.

Woodland Campout At Moons Wood

August 8th 6:30pm - 9:30pm "Moons Wood" Come and join us at Moons Wood, Burgh in Woodbridge for a chilled night of drumming & socialising around a roaring fire as the sun sets. Want to stay into the night?.... Camping is available Friday night, so stay, relax, open a beverage of your choice and spend the night in this stunning setting. Camping will cost £20 per tent which is payable in cash on the night. We'll also have food for sale from the grill on Saturday morning.
