Does your child enjoy drumming? Are they aged between 8-15 years? Do they want to learn an instrument but can’t read music? Don’t let this be a barrier. In these new classes they will become part of a group which will build their confidence, creativity and give them a voice through the drumming.
These classes will broaden their understanding of the importance of music and give them a chance to learn rhythmic patterns in a wider cultural context.

Our classes run for 3 weeks in succession and each class is 60 minutes long. Seats are limited so we recommend booking and reserving your seat as soon as you can.
In these classes you will learn all about and play Traditional West African Rhythms on a Djembe (Jem-Bay) which is played with your hands. You will also be introduced to drums called Dunun which are played with sticks. During this 3 week program we will assist your learning by providing a short YouTube video each week with easy notation. The final week is filmed so you can impress your family and friends with how far you have come and this will also be placed into the YouTube bank of videos that you can access time and time again.
All tutors at Wooden Roots are DBS registered and have experience working within school environments.
Wooden Roots follows all Safeguarding and Health & Safety procedures
Upon registering for this class you will be sent a registration form with a questionnaire that will need to be completed & returned to us prior to attendance. It is the responsibility of the parent /guardian to inform us of any specific requirements that your child may have or need whilst they are in class. You are welcome to either spectate or drop off your child but your child must be dropped off 15 minutes prior to their class and collected within 15 minutes of the class ending.
All Wooden Roots staff (including volunteers) strive to make the premises and any equipment or substances provided safe, so far as is 'reasonably practicable'. It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to ensure that Wooden Roots is provided with all information to ensure your Childs safety. You are of course welcome to remain with your child during the lesson.
