Exquisite is an understatement for this djembe! The stems decorative carving style on this djembe came as an inspiration from my visit to Japan, yes Japan - in 2005 a group of students in our Los Angeles based drum and dance class visited and studied West African drum and dance in Japan, it was life changing for me! I asked my carver to select a very nice djembe shell that they could hand carve a nice round bowl to keep a full authentic Malian sound but the outer decorative carving to be carved to represent old Japanese architecture that I was in awe of. We now call this style of djembe “Japan - Round bowl”. As you can see this djembe came out sweet and I would say that this would be considered to be an heirloom djembe - The sound is superb and projects creating a good vibe and energy.
